2016 Audi A6, A7, S6, S7 and RS7: Prepare to Pay More - News - Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

Old news to most of us here, but a nice summary of the pricing/packaging changing. They even caught the loss of the differential on the S6 base-trim.

Good find Alex. Technically I think they are wrong when they say 'the 7 speed dual clutch automatic borrowed from the S6 and S7'. The 7 speed dual clutch in the 2.0 FWD is actually from the GTI/S3, etc.

Always fun to read something new on these cars though.

Thank you!

I think the dual clutch in the S3/GTI is 6-speed. Although I do agree with you that I don't think it's the exact unit from the S6/S7 since the gear ratios are a little different.

I'm still waiting for a magazine to do some real performance testing on the 2016 models and I'd love to hear a review on the dynamic steering that's now part of the sports package.

Oh that's right... it is a 6 sp. I just find it surprising they can hook up the DSG from the 4.0 TFSI to the 2.0 TFSI also. That takes some surgery.

None of the gear ratio's or any of the other specs match up. I'd imagine it's a different unit that they borrowed from their EU part bin. Audi has a couple of DSG/s-tronic variants in production including the Porsche borrowed for the Macan - which is the same one used in the S6/S7 (DL501). Full list below:

name speeds max. torque (N·m)
DQ200 7 280
DQ250 6 350
DQ380 7 380
DQ500 7 550
DQ511 10 550
DL501 7 550

They hook the ZF 8-speed auto to the 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 and now a 7-speed DSG to all 3 as well. The orientation of the engine has everything to do with it. The bellhousing bolt pattern is cake.
