Is the C7 S6/7 the last chance to get a V8?
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2016/07/audi-probably-done-designing-new-v8s-report/
With all the downsizing going on in recent years it makes sense that Audi would stop making V8s - they've been moving the V8s upmarket for a while but now there's nowhere to go. I've been playing with the thought of trading up from an A6 recently and reports like these may give me the final push to pull the trigger and not wait for the C8. What do you all think?

I say V8 gets retained in the A8 and R8...at least for a while

The reports I've seen show the C8 S6/7 getting the new V6T (with 400+ hp), while the RS6/7 retain the V8T. If true, it's the end of an era and I'm glad I got in on the ground floor. The current engine is stupendous.

S6/7 with the same motor as the S4/5 but in a different state of tune? ...that would truly be a shame...especially if they don't crack the 450+HP mark...it makes the S6 seem less special (read:not demand a premium over an A6)...assuming the new V6T will also make it into the A6/7.

Damn shame for sure. A suped-up V6TT can produce a lot of power but it will NEVER sound and feel the same as a V8.
Reminds me of the time we bought my wife's '15 GL450. Up until 2015, the '13-'14 models had a V8TT, which hit 60mph in 5.7 seconds; pretty good for a full size SUV. In 2015, they shoved a V6TT in the same heavy SUV, 0-60 in 6.7 seconds which isn't horrible but a full second slower than the outgoing model. The mpg figures improved by about 2mpg. My wife doesn't mind it and it's her daily driver. The V6TT puts out (hp & torque) close to what the normally aspirated V8 used to put out but the V6TT sounds horrible and revs high for obvious reasons. We can all thank the CAFE standards!

Sound?
Most of the sound in a S6 is synthesized as the turbos muffle most of the noise. The V6 will probably sound like the V8, but it will feel different because of piston balance and other issues. Damn, I might just get a Mustang GT, a Camaro or a hemi Dodge :-) Somehow, I think that 8 cylinders is what God intended.

If this is the last generation with V8TT I may buy it at the end of the lease as I suspect they will have good resale value.
I think the V6TT cars out there are easily capable of similar performance (look at the skyline GT-R) but there is something nostalgic about V8s and there is the sound.
