Given the calibration of German speedometers, this makes very little sense. German speedometers are calibrated to always err on the fast side. It's required by European law. The law states that a speedometer can never show less than the actual speed and no more than 110% + 4 km/h of actual speed. So, that's quite a bit of a tolerance. At 55 mph you could be going as slow as about 48 mph in reality. Adjusting your speed in 1 mph increments is really kinda pointless with tolerances like this.

Love ACC - hate going on trips now in my other 2 cars that don't have it. I can live with a few mistaken slow downs for the convenience. Actually really not mistaken - actually safe slow downs.

Default adavtive cruse control

I have had it for 5 days so far I find it quite amazing. It will bring the car from 100mph to an almost stop back to 100 mph with out any intervention. I think it works great with the ability to adjust the distance to the car in front of you and your desired maximum speed. The system really works well. It does not take long to let the car take control in a traffic jam and allow it to stop and accelerate to the needs of the traffic. No doubt with active side assist and lane departure active, and adaptive cruise control you are driving one of safest cars you could possibly drive. I loves it driving something else will be a bit of a disappointment.

For me the ideal would be ACC that can be switched to regular mode.
First, you can turn off ACC in the MMI settings and the cruise control will revert to the old manual style. Second, you can press the accelerator pedal to temporarily override the ACC until your distance interval is resumed in the example you describe when a car cuts in front. This will override the auto braking and provide a smoother transition back to ACC. I do this all the time in that situation.

I have to apologize, there is no setting in the MMI to disable ACC to revert to standard cruise control (at least in my 2013 A6). I was confusing it with Auto Brake Guard which can be disabled.

My second point about temporarily overriding ACC by pressing the accelerator pedal is accurate.
