Default The reign of the V8, coming to pass...

I've enjoyed my current 2018 S6 for 3 years now. I ordered it because I wanted to experience the V8 as long as I could before it was phased out of the S6. I think I'll trade it in for something new with in a years time. I've been looking at the current S6 and the RS 5, they are amazing vehicles no doubt, but it's really hard for me to get over the fact that I'll be downgrading to a V6. I thought as this time approached my feelings would soften, and I'd fall in line with the fact that V8's are going to be a thing of the past. It's funny I stumbled onto this Video on YT about comparing the old RS5 to the New RS5, and its so funny how these guys just love the old naturally asperated V8 RS5 over the CLEARLY more powerful (HP and TRQ), and technologically advanced 2020 RS5. The new RS5 just checks so many boxes off over the old RS5 in every area possible. Yet for 1 reason, and 1 reason alone, they simply love that old RS5, the sound, and the feeling you get while driving a V8 is just so intoxicating.

YT Video here:

I find myself thinking about looking into a Merc C63 now because Audi simply does not have a product in the Sub 100K category that excites me as much anymore.
What do you guys think?

To my mind the replacement options are either the C8 RS6 or F90 M5 (if prepared to leave the marque) if you want something V8 in a similar class (size/performance etc). Assuming they both take you over $100k USD, you could wait for a 'lightly used' CPO one to drop into range if you are OK with purchasing used.

Mike, I had the same feelings. I had a 2016 S7 that I loved. But the lease matured after 48 great months. I ordered a new (2020) S7 and was having second thoughts about going to the V6. I can tell you that the combination of the electric "turbo" to eliminate the lag and the extra 38 lb-ft of torque and the 8 speed gearbox make for a great driving experience. It is a heavier car but just as quick. I find it a lot quieter on long trips and in Auto mode the ride is very comfortable. Put it in Sport/Dynamic and it becomes a bit of a beast!

I feel the same way regarding the V8. I will definitely check out the 2022 Lexis IS500 with the naturally aspirated V8.

Aside from the 19 inch wheels, I'm actually interested in it!

The IS 500 has a maximum output of 472 hp at 7,100 rpm and 395 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,800 rpm. Despite the drastically more powerful engine, the vehicle tips the scales at 3,891 pounds (from the press release)

So a little more hp and similar torque than the S6 but almost 600 lbs lighter. Only RWD.

I completely sympathize with OPs situation. I’ve given up my S6 over a year ago and still miss it. One of the true “all round” great vehicles I’ve owned. Plan was to get the C8 RS6 but having a second set of twins this was not practical with 4 kids. I too, couldn’t pass up on a V8 but needing 6 seats choices were very limited so I ended up with an X7 M50i, which feels as quick, if not quicker than the S6 it replaced and I’m very happy with another monster V8. I will keep buying them as long as I can afford and they are not outlawed. I fear though this may be one of the last with all the electrification going on. Oh well, just like with all things, it was great while it lasted and I’m happy to have had the privilege to experience it all!
