Default Getting Ready to Purchase S6- Some important questions

Hello!

I am coming from a 2014 BMW 335i xDrive. Test drove a S6 and I am in love. Due to cost I am looking to buy one used, possibly a 2013 or 2014.

I have searched the forum for the past hour and am looking to educate myself on the following:
  1. Other than coolant leaks from the supercharger what are some common issues that I should know about?
  2. How reliable has your S6 been? How much money in repairs have you had to spend?
  3. Based on the first two questions, how strongly would you recommend an aftermarket warranty? If you have purchased on please let me know which one and the cost

I plan on going to an Audi dealer and asking for the service history before purchasing a S6 as well as looking at Carfax. According to consumer reports Audi is one of top 3 reliable brands in the world, but I still have doubts based on my brother's 2005 Audi A4 and my friends similar age A4. They both have had constant problems with things breaking.

Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification. Your ownership experience from a reliability standpoint?

I leased a new 2013 S6, kept until 55k miles, no serious issues. That said, if I were buying a used non-CPO S6, I would buy the Platinum Audi Pure Protection Plan from an Audi dealer. If something major goes wrong, these can be very expensive cars to fix. The thing that worried me when my warranty expired while waiting for my 2017 S6 to arrive was the oil in cylinder issue:

The company that administers the Audi extended warranty (Fidelity Warranty Services) gave me no trouble when I had to make multiple claims in the past. I previously had a 2003 RS6 I bought used as a CPO with 26k miles. At the end of the CPO warranty, I bought the Platinum plan from Audi, and it paid for much, much more in repairs than the warranty cost me. I would not hesitate to purchase that warranty again. (You can find the brochure on the Audi of America website.)

I don't feel that the dealer ever really fixed the throttle lag issue on my 2013 S6, so make sure the one you buy satisfies you on the test drive. My 2017 doesn't seem to have any throttle lag. It's a much better car in lots of subtle ways. Still, I don't think you can go wrong with a 2013 or 14 S6. They're great cars.

I would stretch with the $$$ and try to find a CPO car.. I bought my 14 S6 a year ago as a CPO car...wasn't cheap but only had a touch over 4K miles on it. These cars are BIG $$$ if something goes wrong.

Thank you to everybody that has replied thus far! Keep them coming. I am feeling great and love the feedback.

Will definitely look into the 2014/CPO

Any idea how much the Platinum Audi Pure Protection Plan costs and if there are short term options available (purchase 1 year of warranty protection)?

Very exciting! In the same boat and can't wait to hear your initial experience. Also, how long were you looking for your S6?
