heat and dash air distibution button - not working?

Default heat and dash air distibution button - not working?
On page 68 of the OM under "addressing the air distributioin" it states that pressing this button "you can manually select the vents where the air will flow". when I press this button, capital "A"s appear on both driver and passenger section in the HVAC control screen and after a few seconds it goes back to Auto and the button shuts off. Am I using the button incorrectly?

Push the button, when the A appears use the temperature control ***** to change the airflow.

I think that will take care of it!
