on a related ride height topic, i understand there is a way to temporaril raise to maximize ride height for steep driveways, chin-ripper parking lot curbs, etc? Do I correctly understand this independent of the categorical Comfort-Auto-Dynamic-Individual settings, and if so where do I find it in the MMI Menu Maze? This is going to be mission-critical the day I drive it home in 2-3 weeks, and having sat thru MMI ground school with the rep who delivered my brother's S4, I'm not too confident i'm gonna get a good answer there.

Not sure I understand "can't be compared as similar cars". I'm not claiming they are similar. I'm just interested in a comparison.
Let me put it this way. If you were paid $10,000,000 to drive either an S6 or an A6 over 10,000 miles of busted up pavement, which would you pick (and you have to give the car back at the end)?

When making our decision between the A6 and S6 ride comfort was top priority. We know the S6 definitely had the power department down. We test a A6 with standard suspension on 18" wheels, a A6 with sport package(sport suspension) with 19", and a S6 with 20".
Our conclusion:
A6 19" Sport was the bumpiest and harshest ride among the three.
Standard A6 with 18" ride was comfortable. Felt like the C6 A6 we were coming from.
S6 with 20". Found it to be the most comfortable in Comfort mode despite being on 20". When in Dynamic, felt slightly better than the A6 19" Sport Package. Gave us the flexiblilty. The wife wanted comfort. I wanted sporty and 20". Win win.
