Twist the ends together (but don't connect them) and just tape with electrical tape, then zip tie out of the way. If your brake warning light is on, I wouldn't ignore it. Did you check your brake fluid reservoir? When you push the pistons back to install new (full depth) pads, the fluid might overflow.

well its been 2 weeks now and all is well. Brakes are great and I like to rotor look.
parts to be installed
propane heater to keep the chill down
safety first
tools of the trade
compressing pistons
new pads in place
rotor and caliper back in place

The torque rating is provided in the instructions that come with the shims (164 N-m, or about 120 lb-ft, IIRC).
For the rear brakes, the torque spec for the 15mm bolts that go into the guide pin boot is 35 Nm, or 26 lb-ft. These should also be replaced.

I just spent $1565 + shipping for all my parts (ordered from 3 different places). Oemvehicleparts.com had similar pricing to other internet shops but had the lowest shipping (to Georgia). The service manual says to replace the front spring clips but I chose not to since others have reused them.

Many thanks. I was considering doing it myself when the dealer said "about $2K" but I realize that if its $2K its not bad with $1564 in parts, since you have someone to complain to if the rotors warp or something. I note that the Porterfield (most expensive) pads are advertised as "race pads". How do they feel/perform compared to OEM? Everyone notes OEM dust and low temperature squeal so a replacement without those problems would be welcome. I note that my brakes squeal at 33 F and below but are quiet above that temp.
