Decision for me came down to which was more fun to drive. This is not my daily driver so decided fun vs size and luxury would win out. Although i really didn't compromise on luxury a lot. I didn't realize until late in the process I could get pretty much every A8 luxury feature on the S6 including the comfort seats with massage. And actually the MMI system on the 2016 S6 is a step above the current A8. So I got the more modern MMI and pretty much all other A8 features going S6. Just lost a little bit of room and a little bit of ride softness (debatable if that is good or bad)

If this was your daily driver would you have still opted for the S6 over the A8?

And gained a bit of trunk space. A8 electronics are all behind the rear seat.

Yes the a6/s6 especially with the fold down seats can have a lot more storage.

Default And you can put 4 winter tires and wheels in the S6.

I finally figured out how to get all 4 winter wheels (OEM) and tires (standard 19", not the narrower ones Audi sells) in my S6. Fuggetaboutit with an A8.

Take a photo. I've got 4 tires in my garage that I'll need to take to UPS at some point.

Default sorry

Next time I take them to the tire shop is next fall, so no photo. The two tires closest to the seats need to overlap some (one on top of the other, but only a few inches). The ones in the back of the trunk can be flat on the floor. I put a piece of cardboard behind the front seat backs for protection. I also have my tires/wheels in cloth caddies purchased on Amazon.

Got to enjoy a 2015 A8 4.0T (nwb) loaner for a day while my S6 got its summer rubber on. I came away mightily impressed. Reviews claim the car drives a lot smaller than it actually is. The reviews are right. It has steering feel you would not expect for a car of this size. While this might be a cantaloupes to honeydew melons comparison, the steering feel on this A8 vs. the F10 BMW 5 series loaners I had a few years back is night and day. I guess what I'm trying to say is that while the A8 is bigger in almost every dimension vs. the current BMW 5 series, it actually drives better. As far as acceleration, I would defy anyone to notice a seat-of-the-pants difference between the S6 and the A8 4.0T. That 8-speed shifts stupid fast and the brakes are tremendous. I kept thinking "And this isn't even the S8!". Interior trimming are a bit nicer but honestly the S6 is so choice, you're kinda at the point of diminishing returns and as others have pointed out, you can get all the neatest options and tech. the A8 has on the S6 too. So would I trade my S6 for one? Perhaps if I lived somewhere with wide open spaces, vs. cloistered, urban-growth-bounded Portland. For me the A8 is simply too long and the trunk really isn't all that big. Still, I think it's the ultimate stealth sedan. If the S8 flies under the radar, the A8 4.0T flies beneath the tree tops.
