Default S6 vs A8

Anyone cross shop the S6 vs the A8? I understand they perform differently but pricing seems similar. I'm just starting to think about my options. The S6 ranks very high on my list but I do like the A8 as well.

I had an A8L 4.0T loaner. The car was faster than I expected and pleasingly fast, but maybe I shouldn't have been surprised since it's basically the same motor. The A8L had more bells and whistles than the S6 (sticker was a little north of $100K) but didn't satisfy the driver's need for dynamics and performance. The car just felt big and heavy. It made me think plushness of an 80's cadillac with German control. In other words, bumps in my daily drive were barely felt in the A8L. If you do mostly highway cruising the A8L would be great. But when things get twisty it obviously can't hold up to the S6.

If athletic performance is important, go with the S6. Otherwise, the A8L 4.0T is a nice contender if you want a nice cruiser.

The pricing is only similar if you compare the V8 S6 vs. the V6 A8.

I did test an A8 but I wasn't ever cross-shopping (too big, not sure it fits in my garage). It was more to get a feel for the engine and seats though since I couldn't find a S6/7 to drive.

I remember there were some input on the A8 when I was comparing the S6, A7 and A8 earlier in the year that might be helpful:

Looked at both, but if I was going to go 8 I only wanted the S8 and that was way too much.

The S6 will certainly be more agile than the A8, especially versus the A8L. Having said that, the A8/A8L with the sports package (rear sports differential and dynamic steering being the key features) does "drive smaller" than you'd think and is a heck of a lot of fun on back road "twisties"---while still giving you a more compliant and comfortable ride versus the S6. It all depends on what you want out of the car and what it's mission will be for you. Dollar variances aside, the NWB A8 in 4.0T guise equipped with sports package clearly won't ever be an S8, but it gets you reasonably close.

I have both a 2013 S6 and a 2013 A8 NWB.

The A8 is fantastic on long highway trips with the added luxury and comfort. We have the massaging seats, active cruise, etc...

My S6 doesn't have those features, but otherwise it blows the doors off the A8 in almost every regard. Quicker, faster, more agile, better looking and bigger trunk.

I was just given a 2015 A8L 3.0T as a loaner while some minor warranty work is being done on my A7....man it sure does have some great interior amenities and like subterFUSE said, it's great for cruising along, but damn does it just feel massive.

Interesting... All the stuff you mentioned is available on the S6 (and is on the one I have on order). Why have two cars that are so similar? Why not just get an S6 that is loaded?
