Speed Limit Display in C7 S6 HUD

Where I am, option code QR9 is required for visual speed limit detection, which works as an override to the "fixed" speed limit determined by GPS/navigation maps. But I cannot select this option without also taking active lane assist, so it is using those cameras.
I have to assume, and I mean no offence, that the only reason for Audi to have turned off speed limit display for the US in the HUD (whether GPS or camera determined) is concern over litigation. These systems can never be 100% perfect.
Saying that, I found the Audi and Mercedes speed limit display system (via HUD) to be very good. The BMW system (GPS, no camera detect) was wrong 3 times in a recent half hour drive, telling me I was in an 80kph zone when in fact I was in a 50kph zone. Here that would have resulted in a licence cancellation. I would not have been able to use "but the car told me it was okay" as an excuse in court, nor would I be able to sue BMW for getting it wrong.

Glisse, do you happen to have VCDS? If so, I wonder if there's a way to see what the coding is you have for it. It would be interesting to try to enable it in the U.S. cars to see what happens. U.S. signs are of course different, so if they didn't program it to detect, we'd be out of luck. That said, there's a chance they programmed it to work and just have it disabled.

Now that is interesting. I wonder whether 2016 A6/S6 could be made to work with this, especially since 2016s can do their own updates outside the dealer to my knowledge. It seems likely other fully-equiped C7s could the right programming, but I doubt we could get U.S. programming on those units.

The TT is the first car released with the full TFT dash and the MIB III. The Q7 will be the next in January. Following that will be the A4/A5/Q5 in around March/April and the new R8 thereafter. I dont see the A6/7 getting it until the refresh in 2019.

Yeah, rich people problems... It does sound like the nav speed limits and HUD speed limits are different systems though (HUD with camera, and nav with Mac data), right?

I don't have the HUD option on my 2013, but I always keep the navigation selected anyway (maybe because I drive LA traffic every day), so I can at least see the speed limit stored in the navi's database.
