My dealer told me they would replace the 3G modem free if I have an active Audi Connect account. I let mine lapse after the 6 month trial & definitely not be interested in paying $600+ to restore the 3G feature to original specs. Guess I need to call Audi direct to find out if it's covered under warranty or just Audi Connect customers...

The letters being sent do say you must have an active T-Mobile acct to receive the free modem update. Simple solution. Just purchase a one month T-Mobile activation for $30, get the update then don't renew and switch to US Mobile or AT&T 3G. (BTW, the 30 month Audi Connect plan is $450, not $600 but it doesn't matter if you do just a month).

I had T mobile in my S8(rarely better than 2G). I would have done anything to switch to the LTE AT&T service. If that's an option, I would do it. AT&T in my S6 is very fast. Even when running google maps.

My understanding is the 2017 Q7 has the new AT&T 4G LTE modem like the 2016 C7 series. Models with the new MMI, Audi has switched to AT&T from T-Mobile.

You would be correct, the new Q7 is 4G LTE from AT&T

I haven't received a letter re my 2013 S6 and T mobile account, but I guess this means that if I drive out of my area to affected areas I'm cut to 2G speeds? Sounds like I should get a rebate!

$600+ is if I were to pay for hardware update myself. 4 hours labor + parts.

I've thought of what others suggested, turn on Audi Connect to qualify, just have to decide if the dashboard surgery is worth it...

As I understand it, it's not too bad - others have had it done with no problems - the 5F module is removed without fanfare. When T-Mo updates the bands in my area, I will have it done. I couldn't stand to be be without my 3G Audi Connect.
