Unsolicited Roof Rack ****
Hey,
For some reason I love the way our cars look loaded up for road trips. After setting up the rack and clamping the box and bike mounts she is ready for summer fun. Heading out on a family road trip saturday. This will be our maiden voyage with the S6. Normally we take my wifes passat wagon on the long trips, but she likes the comfort seats too much to pass up the opportunity.
I am guessing most of you will never see another S6 at maximum load bearing setup. Seems to be an unlikely car to load up a roof box and bikes.. maybe I am wrong though. With 2 smallish kids and all the baggage the roof box is a must in my situation. Although the trunk is absolutely cavernous. I am worried that the extra space in the box will be filled up on the trip with "souvenirs".
I used to run this setup on my B8 S4 and the box seemed disproportionally large. However, it seems almost small on the S6.
Happy 4th everyone! hope you have a safe and fun holiday!
Mike

You are right, this is a unique sight.
For me, I never leave on a road trip without first detailing the car. i want it to look its best on the road even though it will just get dirty on the trip. With short trips it gets cleaned before and after, with long trips, it gets cleaned during as well. Yes, I bring my own bucket, sponge, chamois, and Show Off detailer spray.
Enjoy your maiden voyage!

I wish I could carry around my washing kit as well. No room with the family. Sad to say My wash job yesterday (car is already covered in brake dust and pollen) will have to suffice until we get back in a week. I think she'll hold up, but she won't be pretty!

I use the rocky mount euro pitchfork bike racks on the factory crossbars. Works well and personally I think it looks better than the aftermarket solutions. I had wispbars on my S4 and they are no quieter than the factory items on the S6... or I guess i should say no lounder.

Has anyone been able to fit 4 bikes on the roof? I have a mountain bike, the HH6 has a road bike, and our 3rd and 2nd graders have their own bikes. I have two fork-mount and two upright Thule carriers. Haven't tried it yet, but wondering if I can somehow fit all four on top.
