Default H&R Module - Mini Review and Impressions (now with pics)

Hello all,

Well, I took the plunge and picked up the H&R module. My dealer would not play ball and lower the car for me and I do not have the brass ***** to use VAG-COM to do it myself...

I am going to wash the car and take some pics later today, until then I will just share my thoughts and solicit feedback from those with the "dealer" lowering.

1. Easy install. less than 10 minutes. Completely plug and play with one caveat... Adjustment.
2. It is programmed for a 40mm drop as default. This is too low. it looks pretty cool, but the front tires were tucked up in the fender.
3. Adjustment is easy, but takes time to fine tune.

I drove around on the 40mm drop for 20-30 miles. The car was dramatically stiffer. Body roll was all but gone and there was a notable pogo affect from the car seemingly riding around on just the shocks. (not sure this is the case, but it feels like it)

I have been raising the car 5mm at a time over the last day and doing some small drives over the same route to compare settings and feelings. I was not planning on the side effect of a stiffer ride. it seems counterintuitive to me unless the H&R unit is able to control the shock stiffness as well. I have found a good balance at 30mm drop. The stance is just about perfect, the ride is stiffer, but not uncomfortable and the body roll is still very well controlled. The brake dive and acceleration squat are also very dramatically reduced. I have to say that I am very pleased with this little black box.

Is this worth $1600? For me, simply put, yes. I am able to control the height of my car easily and with little hassle. The unit will take all of 2 minutes to remove for service and there is the potential resale if I ever part ways with the car. Had my dealer been willing to lower my car the +/- 20mm i would have gone that route. From what I understand in other threads there is no change in ride stiffness when done that way, can someone confirm?

Can anyone confirm that the H&R module has an effect on shocks? There is very little literature provided and I cannot find any info on the Google.

Happy Motoring!

H&R would probably be the best people to ask. I would love to know the answer to this because if it does affect the suspension then I would say that puts this module in a completely different module.

Does it keep the 30mm drop even if you switch the ADS to other modes? Does any "raise" mode still work?

I'm leaning towards the KW DLC, just so I can have preset height adjustability from my iPhone. But I do prefer the plug-n-play of the H&R.

I have a feeler out to H&R, but was hoping part of the Audiworld brain trust would know.

The Raise and lower function in MMI work just as before. The Comfort mode is slightly lower than before but still very high comparable to dynamic.

Very happy with the functioning as it is the same as stock.

Glad to hear, and I'll definitely consider the H&R module since it would be so much easier/quicker to revert to stock. Did you install it yourself?

Yes, took me all of a few minutes. The suspension ECU hides on the right side of the trunk behind the netted cubby. Once that is removed you plug in the harness and away you go.

I'm assuming this is in Dynamic mode? Looks good!

Can you post a photo of how high it raises to?

Much appreciated. Just want to make sure there is enough height in it for my driveway at home/work.
