Oil Consumption
Took the s7 on a 350km trip, cruised at around 140km/h, and the temperature outside was a steady 32 degrees. As we pulled into the hotel we got a low oil warning. I was wondering if it were normal for a 2013 car with 48,000kms on it too run out of oil like that.

When did you last check and top up the oil?
Oil consumption is normal, but I suspect your 350km trip consumed just enough to trip the low oil warning, it was probably low for a while before that.

These cars are designed to burn oil. They usually burn up a quart over 10,000 miles so if you are past due for an oil change, i would recommend adding half a court if you check the oil level and see that it is low.

From 2013 owners manual
My owner's manual is quoting a lot more oil use than that. I've only had this car for 6-7000 miles, but I'm seeing use closer to the manual.
Might be the older model. Might be the "depending on how the vehicle is driven part". Cough.

I don't understand the logic of adding a half a quart to see if it's low...... why not just check it to see how low it is.

At 20k miles on my 2017 S7. I’ve had to put eight quarts of oil in. I now keep a quart or two in the back at all times for when the warning inevitably comes on.
Also, re: checking oil level, there’s really no need - the car will warm you when you need to put it in.
