Default Audi Letter extending warranty for 2009-2012 3.2 and 2009-2013 3.0T engines

Anyone else get this in the mail today? Extends warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles. Nice of them to do it voluntarily. Came with a voucher for reimbursement as well (though my 3.2 hasn't needed the service -diagnose and clean the secondary air ports - yet).

Yeah!

Carbon build up. See...

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2817781

From the letter:

"Audi has determined that, under certain driving conditions, carbon buildup can occur in the engine cylinder head secondary air ports.

...

In our continuing efforts to assure proper performance of Audi vehicles, your dealer will diagnose and, if necessary, clean the engine cylinder head secondary air ports to remove the carbon buildup at no cost to you as long as the vehicle remains within the time and mileage limits of this warranty extension.

...

This warranty extension covers only the diagnosis and cleaning of the engine cylinder head secondary air ports to remove carbon buildup. And should you ever sell the vehicle, this warranty extension is fully transferable to subsequent owners."

And for those who have paid for removing the carbon build up already...

"If you have previously incurred out-of-pocket expenses directly relating to the issue described in this letter, please refer to the enclosed form that explains how to request reimbursement."

so should we receive that note by mail or should everyone call the dealer to ask about that?

You are sure about the 3.0T? I haven't heard about this engine being affected, it is usually the 3.2 and 4.2 FSI.

I am surprised too but, yes, that's what the letter states.

I wonder if this means the problem was fixed for the 2014 3.0T's. I doubt it, but they will probably extend that warranty in a few years since it's the current model year and extending the warranty on a new car may hurt sales.

At the dealer right now for the 5000 m service. Dealer confirmed that Audi started sending them out for both engines 2 days ago.

So what about the 2014? Did they make engine changes to fix this or will it include 2014 as well? Almost makes it worth getting a 2013 instead of a 14 if that is the case?
