Default beeping sound with "check surrounding" message during heavy snow

Got a call from my wife who's driving through the mountain pass, hearing this constant beeping with "check surrounding" on dashboard.

Took me 5 seconds to think of the possibilities of the problem.

My first troubleshooting step: Deactivate lane assist. My luck that it was the cause!

I think the lane assist cameras are covered by the snow or got confused because of the heavy snow... Not sure why the system wouldn't just "go grey" like when it's not sensing the lanes.

Just in case anyone got into the same situation.

My first reaction was that it was the automatic front parking sensors being activated.

Don't get much snow in FL but that same thing occurs when the parking sensors sense an obstruction where in my Pilot's case is rain.
Our Q7 doesnt have the auto parking sensors but I agree with what Rick said.

Yup, snow covering the sensors will do this. Can get really annoying since it tends to go off every. flippin. time. you pull up to an intersection

I think you're right... She mentioned "Check surroundings" on dashboard. It could be on MMI. .... (dashboard ... MMI .. same thing .. lol) which indicated the parking mode. Well disabling the lane assist for some reason helped in her case.. weird.

this has happened to me I think it's the salt, cause this happens after I haven't washed my car after a snow storm but there's no more snow but my car is caked in salt.
