Default Help with Tires Needed

I took my 2014 A8 with its second set of Pirelli tires to Costco tire for rotation, and they told me that the front tires have worn unevenly, so its time to change them all. Barely got 22K miles on this set. They do not stock 265/40/20. When I asked about 275/45/20, they said they will not install a "non-OEM recommended" tire.

What choices do I have for a quiet tire. Since I live in the Southwest, snow and ice are not a concern.

Personally I would AVOID Costco at all cost. They are not great with good balancing and cannot do the higher end road force balancing I do on all of my cars with low profile tires and big rims. I always get some vibration without road force balancing. I would recommend you go to Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and chose some good tires in size 255/45R20 like my Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 which are SUPER quiet, smooth and long lasting or go for the 275/40R20 Continetal DWS 06. As long as the tires are within 3% diameter error it will not be an issue and Costco are full of wimps and do not want to hold themselves liable. Tirerack has no issues with this and same thing with my Audi dealer and local high end euro independent mechanic. There are a lot of complaints of people going to Costco, Discount etc and have bad experience dealing with those people who are clueless with higher end cars and road force balancing. I would only take a DISCOUNT car to those places and NOT an A8.

Then put in your shipping address and ship the tires to your nearest Audi dealer or any European high end mechanics that will do Road force balancing for the super sensitive A8l to get glass smooth ride. I don't rotate and never liked doing it. All 4 of the tires get even wear on my Audis because I get the alignment done properly and checked every 1-2 years to keep it in spec. You can go out of spec over time.

Even service writer at my dealer acknowledges Tire Rack is an excellent place to buy tires and the dealer can't beat their price. And the dealer has no problem installing tires I purchase from Tire Rack.

I finally decided not to mess with different tire sizes, and ordered 4 P Zero Neros (265/40/20) from Discount Tire. I just have to accept 20,000 mile tire life, just as it was in my BMW750.

I ordered the standard ones, since they did not have the low noise ones.

The Pzero's absolutely suck. I'm sorry you chose that path.

I would have stuck to my guns and gotten a better tire and taken it to a place that would actually install what the customer wanted. My local Walmart tire center actually does my tire swaps when I don't order tires+rims from tirerack. I love the Conti ExtremeContact DWS06's myself.

Best,

Wow! Have you actually owned and driven P Zero 265/40/20? Or is it just Internet opining?

Says the person who's been a member here for the blink of an eye....

I have not owned that exact size, but yes, I have owned them and stand by my comment.

You will have more credibility when you actually own an Audi A8, on this forum. Thanks!
