Default 2011/2012 Q7

Hey guys!

Since I will probably buy a 2011/2012 Q7, I did many searches on the web, I have a whole folder but I still have some questions;

1) This fake sealed for live ATF has to be changed around 120k miles? Or before? Mine will probably have 60K miles and I will do 60k miles with it, so it will have 120k miles at the end, don't need to the change the ATF for me right?

2) For what operations do you suggest to go in a real Audi garage? Because when I hear that they change pads+rotors for 2000$ and that I perfectly know that we can have way better pads+rotors for 800$.. The Q7 is not a race car, all maintenance operations can be done at a professional garage, right?

3) A last question, at 60k miles, what kind of maintenance operation do you do?

Thank you in advance!

1- the ZF tranny on the older 6 speed actually recommened changing the fluid and filter every 60k miles

2 - Any decent garage should be able to do the work, but I'd lean towards places that deal with Audi's on a regular basis, since they'll have the right gear (i.e. VCDS) to perform diagnostic and maintenance activity (i.e. retract rear brake).

3 - 60K maintenance should be in the owner's manual and I've attached the 2011 model one below

Default NEVER...

put ATF in your trans. it will destroy it.
Audis are peculiar finicky beasts that when treated properly by the owner and a QUALIFIED service location, will perform 100% of the time and never let you down.
The trans contains a special fluid and although Audi claims it to be "lifetime", I have changed regularly every 60 to 70 K IN ALL MY AUDIS. Also I would recommend with any used car purchase to take it to a qualified service center and have them change every fluid in the car to set a new baseline for service.
Brake wear is totally dictated by driving habits, I am quite fine with how long my pads and rotors wear.

You should put the correct transmission fluid in your tranny. In the case of my C6 4.2 ZF-6 speed, the following was essentially the procedure: Audi Automatic Transmission Fluid - How To Change Audi Transmission Fluid

And the type of fluid was OE: ZF LifeGuard 8 - Case of 12 x 1L Container

I had our transmission serviced at 100k miles. Might have been good for another 50k but not a risk I wanted to take. I do routine maintenance myself and take it to the dealer for more complex things. ( there have been very few.) I would recommend though that you at least use an Indy shop who will read and follow the scheduled maintenance schedule to the letter. Some service procedures are very infrequent but they are very important just the same.

until dieselgate is resolved I can't imagine anyone buying a TDI. Our fearless protectors might categorize them as not meeting standards and making it impossible to license them....especially on the LEFT coast!

I took no chances on getting the wrong fluid.
Sourced mine from dealer but it is listed here from ECS.
