Default '13 Q7 spare tire cover

Hi guys,
I recently purchased a '13 Q7 and was curious about two things. I'm storing jumper cables in the storage tray that sits directly above the spare tire, but I can hear them sliding around every time I make a turn. Does anyone have any good suggestions to buy a trimmable rubber pad? I have not been able to find a suitable product.
Also, on the underside of the hatch cover, there is a bungee cord with a hook, what is it used for?

Default well....

the cord holds the lid up to keep it out of your way when retrieving the spare. put the cables in a bag....

I've got to ask do people with modern vehicles, like the Q7, still carry jumper cables? I stopped carrying them years ago.

I don't carry them either but when I turned the headlights to ON so that I could run fog lights in the rain last month driving to my sons house in Fort Worth and jumped out to greet the grandsons without turning the switch back to AUTO.------
Some cables would have come in handy the next morning :-)

Luckily I DID have my VAG com cable with me to clear all the errors that dead battery caused.

That looks similar to a product that is sold in the US to line the bottom of cabinets. I cannot order this particular item, but will check out amazon.
Thanks.
