Default 3.0 T gone in Europe?

Checked a few online configurators and order guides and the 3.0 T seems no longer available in Europe, all engine options are TDIs. Permanently or temporarily -- related to the recent sw issue with the 3.0 T or buyers simply preferring the TDI or something else? Any thoughts?

Yes, 3.0l petrol engine was cancelled in last September accross EU. I was told because very few peoples bought it. At least that is the official line. The 2.0l petrol is not sold in EU either. Interestingly both 3.0l and 2.0l petrol engine are available in Russia.

It still baffles me how Europe allows much higher emission for cars compared to the US.

I think that's changing. After encouraging diesel for the past 20 years to reduce CO2, many cities are considering banning them (or at least those which don't meet the latest regs) because of NOx emissions.

A lot of auto press articles about the end of diesels and moving to EV or petrol hybrids.

Europe controls things via taxes. Car taxes are based on engine size, so bigger engines are not very popular. They are selling lots of engines as small as 1.4T. You don't see many 2.0 either. Diesel is mostly Germany, which has very favorable taxes for diesel, but it backfired. Many cities are more polluted now than they were before due to NOx emissions and yes they are starting to consider banning diesel in inner cities.

I can't imagine a good reason to buy a petrol engine Q7 instead of diesel one. If there would be only petrol engine Q7 available, I wouldn't even consider it.

No need to shout, man!

The poster is from Latvia where diesels are available and the Petrol engine is not. Besides, owning a petrol engine-equipped car in the UK and EU would mean a lot more ownership expense.

No petrol models available in New Zealand either, just the two diesel variants. We have the 200kW/600Nm version -- wow that is a superb diesel engine and has exceeded our expectations. It's so quiet and smooth with great torque that suits the Q7 very well.

It's so quiet and does not sound like a typical diesel - most of our guests swear it's a petrol!

We are getting between 1,000-1,100km range from the 84l tank.

Ha Ha, I was not shouting at the poster, just angry at VW. This was my turn to finally get into a Diesel. And then the scandal happened. As a matter of fact I have held of the purchase for a year now hoping it will clear, but no luck. Diesels have been pulled by most German car makers here.
