Default CVT vs AWD reliability

I am looking to purchase a used a5 convertible within 6 months and I'm wondering what experiences people have had in regards to transmission reliability. I would prefer the AWD, due to snow and rain here in Chicago, but it looks like some of the fwd models are 4-5k less. This might be meaningless if the transmission blows within a few years.

I currently have a a4 cabriolet fwd and the cvt transmission grinds. The issue I am having on this car is the evap, which has causes oil leaks and tons of problems. I'm ready to sell it soon.

Has anyone gone from an a4 to a5 and experienced the same problems?

CVT is not AWD although for all practical purposes Quattro doesn't come with front wheel drive AFAIK. But like all automatics (ignore dual clutch semi antics for discussion) they can fail like the CVT and require scheduled maintenance much more often than Audi will admit. ZF says one thing but it's an Audi warranty so buyer beware.

I prefer the Quattro rather than FWD but I did live quite happily with a Saab 900T for many years. Manual transmission...my subsequent 900T with automatic not so much.

Honestly OP, you can get away with either AWD or FWD. I would prefer AWD, but from my time living in Chicago, snow is only really difficult with RWD.

My a4 cab is a 2004.
The PNDRL light kept flashing, so I cleared the codes. I think the electrical is a little bit shaky.

Get snow tires. More important than AWD Vs FWD.

If you can get AWD AND snow tires, even better.
