Newbie A8 purchase
Hi all ,I'm new to this forum loving the A8 found one I like 2007 A8L 3.0tdi quattro have these motors any issues I should look for, the car is immaculate ,bodywork and interior, the only thing is high mileage as it has 180000miles with full audi service history , which is a bonus. Should I expect to pay the asking price of £8000 , or should I look for lower mileage. This is a dealer price.what should I expect to pay cheers folks.

The only thing those are known for is excessive emissions. Nothing on those is a standout from your usual diesel in terms of problems, that I've heard. Not many on these boards have experience with them. The late D3's like that one tend to be very reliable, with the air struts, boot lid motor, and mmi screen gears being the most common failure points. Also prone to early brake and suspension wear, so look at those. I don't know your market, so I can't speak to the price, other than to say that would be plenty a fair price in America, if we had that particular motor.

I think that price is a little high although each person has their own opinion on what they are willing to pay. If you have seen the car in person then you maybe willing to pay that if you fall in love with it. With that mileage there are quite a few out there a lot cheaper especially if you are not too particulaer about it being LWB. You say it's immaculate but is it 100% functional? These cars have a lot of functions and a lot to go wrong but when they are 100% they are awesome.
I would take VCDS with me and plug it in to check for codes. Ask what it has had done and check receipts. If it has not had any suspension work done or screen gears add a couple of grand to your budget because they will definitely be coming soon for you to do as well as a new battery. Check all the soft close function on the doors and the tocuh lock functions on the doors. Check the boot electric open close.
When you have done that then you can answer your own question if you should expect to pay the full asking price as you will have some information to use to knock the price down if they have not disclosed the defects to you beforehand.
where are you in GB?

Sometimes an extra grand or so is money well spent if the car is exceptionally clean, had one owner, meticulously maintained, etc. When shopping for a car for my wife I found a very clean 08 a8l in St. Louis. Paid an extra 2k. My wife and I flew up and drove the car back.
There was another 08 a8l locally but it's history was sketchy. It went from NY to another owner in Connecticut, back to NY, then to auction and then to TX. No thanks. There is a reason why it was priced below KBB.
