Used Q5 is it worth getting it certified
I'm new to the Audi world and my wife and I are looking to buy a used 2017 Q5 with 6500 miles on it. The dealer wants 40,900 for it but it's not certified. They want an extra 2999 to certify it. I really like getting the extra 2 years 50k warranty but that seems like a lot of money. The extended warranty on my wife's current Honda Pilot for 7 years 120k was only 1200. What does anyone think and is there any other route to go to get an extended warranty. I know with Honda you can buy the warranty from any dealer so I was able to get it much cheaper from one in Massachusetts we live in NJ. Thanks for any help on the subject. Mark

Being a 2017 you already have a lot of factory warranty remaining and unless you plan on keeping it beyond 2021 you may be just fine. If you want to keep it longer, you might want to contact FDwarranty and see what they could do on an extended warranty. I would expect less than 3 grand for 3 years.

My wife puts about 15k a year on her cars so she would hit the 50k before the 4 years. But she usually keeps the cars for 5 to 6 years. That's why I want to see what my best options are. I read Audi doesn't use fidelity for their warranties anymore and there are less exclusions starting in 2017. I want to see if any dealers in other states offer better deals on the warranties.

I have it on my 2015 Audi S3.

I believe a dealer pays Audi about $2K to certify a pre-owned car. Then they have to (theoretically) invest in the labor to get the car to the min requirements and the necessary paperwork (If the car needs tires, wiper blades or other non-warranty items it will add to their cost). I've read where some dealers have charged around $2500 to do a CPO. Try to negotiate to see if they will come down a bit.
