So a couple months ago I found a steal on a 99 a6 2.8 for 600 bucks and just had an oil leak and a few minor things.

well it sat for a few months and I never got to the leak or even registered the car. Recently I fixed it and when I get in this car, i find something new to me every time. I'm new to euro cars, i normally have jeeps or pickups. And im seeing wierd, and cool things! Like the center sun shade over the rearview... never seen it before but always wanted one!
but then there's things like the button by the door with what looks to be a wifi symbol upside down in a picture of a car? The hell is that?

So walk me through this thing, tell me about all the cool little things other cars dont have. The secrets.
and, common problems with these motors, transmission, interior, etc. Already found out about the card tray issue. What else?

That button with the wifi looking symbol I thought was for the phone satellite. These cars had the option of a phone. However, that button is for an interior motion sensing alarm. Mine was 'on' (maybe I bumped it) and I didn't know but it explains why the alarms kept going off every 5 minutes when I was detailing the interior one day. Kind of a stupid feature IMO. Mine is always off because my dog rides in the back seat and he'd set the alarm off if I walked into a store real quick.


Also, if your mirror adjustment switch is on the right side, when the car goes in reverse it will tilt the right-side mirror down automatically.


As for the drivetrain I don't know much about the 2.8, but the auto trans was a weakpoint in all C5s

I dont have the owners manual but if you have a link to a pdf or something that'd be great.

and good to know about that alarm button, i might just pull the fuse from it.

Unfortunately, I don't have any source for this. You might get lucky with Google and always, the dealer could order one.

I see the tranny was mentioned, after driving it i noticed there seems to be a lot of lag in the transmission. But it feels smooth. Is that normal with this tranny?

yesterday I was driving it to the car wash and noticed just cruising it seems to lack acceleration and power, and when i floor the gas theres a huge lag before the downshift and go

Some things I enjoy about the car is the easily swapability when it comes to parts. In the first year I got mine the hazard module and windows module went and the mirror selector broke off. You can find replacements cheap on ebay for around 20-40 and just pop it in and out.

The 6 disc changer is in the trunk on the left behind the panel if you have one, along with the jack for changing tired etc.

Not many "secrets" per say. If you really wanna unlock potential get yourself a VCDS compatible reader and you can change some stuff.
