Default anyway to eliminate the MMI timed auto shut-off ?

With MMI on for radio or AMI play, but with ignition off, the MMI shuts down after about 15 min. Can the time period be lengthened, or the function eliminated with VAG COM or other ways ?

You can adjust the various timers in the hidden MMI menus. Although you can't override the EPC system shutting it down if the battery gets too low.

I am having the tech hook up VAG COM on Wed to restore functions lost from 4610 update, one of which is 'battery level'which requires accessing hidden menu. I know the tech has never seen the hidden menu, so I have the instructions for him to restore the battery level; will the location of the MMI timer be an obvious site ?

You don't need vagcom to do any of that. Hidden menu has those check box settings. For the timers, they're in there, just need to search for them as I don't recall exactly where they are.

I read here on the forum that the Hidden Menu needed initially to be enabled with VAG COM... were they wrong about that ?

Yes you ned to enable it for the first time AFAIK. It is after it is once enabled it sometimes can overlap to make same tweak.
