unicorn
Just a light hearted thread as i wanted to know what cars people thought were unicorns ( especially rare )
i am not on about ferrari or hyper cars but cars people could pick up reasonably cheap or cars that kind of went unnoticed.
my 3 cars were the
Audi A8L W12
Lancia montecarlo
porsche 911E
The A8 w12 , film transporter peaked my interest on the model. Had a phaeton and it was a natural upgrade.
Lancia Montecarlo ,Tried buying one twice,I will get one eventually.
Last was a 911E love the old lines and simplicity but price has risen sharp of late.
i have a hundred other cars i would own if i win the lottery, what 3 cars have peaked members interests in their lives?

I would say this qualifies as a Unicorn...

I just got lucky and found one of three 2006 W12s in Light Silver with Amaretto interior that were imported to the US.

I was lucky to have two production vehicles
2002 S6 Avant & 2006 Magnum SRT8.
S6 was black with a silver gut. Not sure of production numbers, but didn't see many on the road here in NY.
I would have imported or built a C5 RS6 Avant if I could have then and that is a true unicorn for me.
SRT8 was silver with silver gut. I had 1 of 555 made in 06 out of a total of 800 made AND the only 1 that I know of that came from the factory with one silver and one black headlight bezel (great QA that week on the line LOL).
While neither of these following two where production vehicles.....I would have produced them.
I had a 01 540i Sport Wagon and would have built a E39 M5 Sport Wagon.
The top of the list for me would be the BMW X5 Lemans V12. Nurburgring in 7:49. Check out the video:

My Challenger is a bit of a unicorn, being one of about 250 SRT8 Spring Specials built that year, but, ignoring my modifications, other than the blue body and interior accents, it came much the same as other SRT8's. The real unicorn, though, would be my CL600. One of 450 produced worldwide each year, with a color combination I have never seen before or since on a V12 equipped model. It's a stunning car you can find relatively cheap, as long as you are prepared to either put in the work to keep it nice or pay out the nose to have someone else do the work. Even without the tune I have, it would outrun anything shy of a Ferrari of comparable vintage. Before I bought(and sold ) my A8, I nearly pulled the trigger on a CTS-V wagon with a stick shift.
I do have the CL600 up for sale at the moment, and my eyes are on looking for a D4 S8 with adaptive cruise control, massaging seats, a tan or brown interior, and wood trim. So, a unicorn among unicorns is what I'll look for. If I dare and if my home sale goes well, otherwise that may have to wait a bit.

I guess I never answered the last bit. If I had to come up with 3 rare cars I'd love to have, the list would have to be these:
1.The above spec'd S8
2.Brabus E63 AMG 850 Estate
3.Lancia Delta HF Integrale
I discounted exotics, since they are by nature low volume, but rather focused on the more unsuspecting and attainable models, even if I'd have to travel to Europe to get a couple of them.

Rare, special and Audi. Q7 rare in Europe, not present in North America. 500 HP and 1000 NM (737 lbft) of torque from factory. Chip tuning brings it to 600 HP and 1200 Nm.

I'm afraid some of mine have gained too much value to qualify for your criteria, but...
Lamborghini LMA002
V12 stick. Got to drive one on the unopened new runway at BNA Nashville. That sound! Makes a hummer H2 or 3 look like a prius.
1990 LM2002. Crazy sheiks everywhere rejoiced!
Lamborghini Murciélago
Ahh the good ole days when VWAG owned Lamborghini. Quattro + carbon ceramic brakes + V12 = Funville!
Right behind you and a sheet of glass (?) and at eye level is a V12 that hates being shifted under 4000 RPM!
Got to drive one of these, too; I was smitten. That's myself and son, waiting to wake up from the dream.
Son Henry, 13, and myself.
Chevrolet K5 Blazer, 1970-72ish, V8, manually locking hubs,,,
Had one in this color (Huggger Orange). Had to shift the (manual) box with a big vise-grip. Great anti-theft device, especially since it'd start with any flat key-shaped thing. Still kick myself regularly for selling it.
