Default Cylinder on demand question

I have looked at various articles covering COD on the D4, and I note that COD is active, within parameters, regardless of setup such as D or S, or dynamic mode. No mention of manual mode. But the articles refer vaguely to relaxed implementation during "interurban" driving on curving roads because going into and out of COD mode actually causes a brief decrease in fuel efficiency.

My question: is COD active when the transmission on an S8 is in full manual mode, and/or during manual override of automatic?

Thanks in advance, Mike

yes it is always active which sort of does suck some times...with obd11 there is a way to turn off cod completely but i dont want to have to switch back and forth. i wonder if there is a way to turn off cod mode in certain settings like dynamic mode or manual shift mode.

FWIW it was discovered that (at least for S6 & S8) if you are in S mode or manual from S mode and you have ESP off (ESP sport mode in S models) then COD is actually disabled along with brake guard etc.

Also if you are watching the green bar in DIS and it is green while driving steady in S mode then you switch off ESP to see if it it disabled COD it will still remain green until the next time it changes to grey then it will not go to green again until you either change driving modes or switch on ESP.

I do not know for sure if A8 behaves the same way.

Gk1, thanks for the info. I dove into the S6 area and found the workaround as you report. One lingering possible grey area is that everything I read applied to the S6, which uses the DSG transmission rather than the tiptronic transmission found on the S8.

Cleex024, can you, or any other S8 owner, or A8 owner for that matter, confirm that this workaround also works on the S8 and/or A8? Mike

So I tried this out the other night and i can confirm that cod is completely off only in sports mode with dsc off in either manual or auto shift. If you are in sports mode with dsc off doesn't matter if you are in sports shift, comfort shift or manual shift it will not activate cod

Thanks, Cleex024, I use the paddle shifters quite a bit while driving my D3, and I was concerned about frequent COD crossover.

I am running out of excuses to put off a purchase. Mike
