Whereabouts are you in southern California? I think the good news is that there are a ton of shops around. Although I haven't used them, Eurocode is just down the street from me and has good reviews. They've always been friendly when I've spoken with them on the phone or through email.

This place has an immaculate yelp review record which is hard to keep. I'm going to try them myself for an oil burning issue that I seem to have. I'll keep you posted on what the prices and service are like.
