Default 15k Service....

So I at the Audi dealership for my 15k service. And they are telling me that every 15k service requires a fuel filter change and some other filter, so the service is almost $500 with the oil change. Can someone explain to me if this is necessary and is this something I could do after the warranty is done?

The 15k service does call for a fuel filter change. At least your dealership actually knows what's included in the service...my dealership explicitly told me that the 15k service did not require a fuel filter change. They only came around after I pulled up the service brochure online and showed them.

FWIW my dealership charged $250 for the 15k service. $500 is absurd for an oil and fuel filter change, adblue top off, and to check a few other things....

For about $300 more you can buy Audi Care at up to 15K miles and this one and the next three scheduled services will be covered. Should save you about 25% over what the dealer would charge for the period.

I can't speak to costs but the two nearly mandatory filter changes for engine longevity that I've received advice on from a few different independent sources/shops are oil & filter every 5k, and fuel filter every 20k. Go looking online and it won't take long to find somebody whose high pressure fuel pump self destructed and sent debris downstream straight into the engine. That is apparently a five figure repair.

Oil every 5k? Sorry but I don't see how sticking to recommended 15k oil service intervals wouldn't provide for a repair like that to be covered under warranty...

I believe the Audi service schedule for all models calls for oil change every 10K miles, not 15K (after the first one at 5K).

You're absolutely right, my bad...Still, it doesn't make sense to me to do double the oil changes necessary.

The need for in between oil changes has been discussed in the forums more times than I can count. While Audi doesn't believe it's necessary for most drivers to do so every 5K miles, there is an argument for those driving under certain conditions, that it can be a good idea. In any case, other than the cost, there's no downside and if you don't race or do mostly short trips, changing the oil in our modern engines every 10K miles (or every 12 months whichever comes first) will be fine.

I am looking at leasing a 2016 A3 (3 years, 30k) and have the option of getting Audi Care for 17$ extra per month. Do you think its a good idea to opt for it at total cost of around $595?

How much costs can I expect at the 15k and 25k miles service at Audi dealership? Thanks!

Probably not a good investment unless you plan on buying out the car at lease end and driving it for anothed couple of years. It would likely cost you about $450-500 for the two dealer services you would incur over a three year lease (after the free 5K miles service then every 10K miles or one year whichever comes first and a two year brake fluid change). That said, it could increase the value a bit in a buyout then a private sale since AC is transferrable to a new owner.
