I am considering a new A4 3.0 Tdi but I am also interested in the same engine in the Q7 since I may continue to track/trailer my Z4 M Coupe. I figure the mpg will be worse in the Q due to the extra weight but does anyone know actual numbers to compare the 2 vehicles? Also, how does this engine sound? I watched the video posted of the Q7 but can't really get a good idea thanks to the music. By the way, I'm in the U.S. so I know I've got a wait ahead of me.

Towing...Same as 4.2 FSI (taken from EU spec sheets) We have both!

I think this engine is just too quiet for you;-)
You can expect about 24 US mpg...even better if you try but who does.

I was with my dealer today and he says the newer version 3.0 TDI with 240 hp is even quieter and smoother, so naturally I asked about remapping mine. I wait.

I just talked to VW guy at the auto show. He says in the US expected fuel economy on a Touareg is expected to mid 20's in town and 30+ on the freeway (miles per gallon). With the 3.0 TDi.

on Q7 average 10-12km/l,on the open road with our quality diesel about 12-14km/l depends on speed 120-140km/h.
A4 tdi 12-15km/l steady driven in town.
