Q7 TDI engine figures favour V8 ?
0-100 is Kmph and fuel is litres average per 100 Kms
3.0 V6 TDI 0-100 233 bhp 500nm 8.2 sec 10.5 per 100
4.2 V8 TDI 0-100 326 bhp 760nm 6.4 sec 11.1 per 100
6.0 V12 TDI 0-100 500 bhp 1000nm 5.5 sec 11.9 per 100
either web sites are quoting incorrect figures or the V8 has an advantage. It seems to give the best returns.
Any thoughts?

different transmission ratios/torque curves?
I've seen powerful turbocharged engines with torque curves that are completely flat over a large part of the rpm scale, as boost/power is electronically reduced to avoid overstressing the drivetrain.
Also, what is top speed in 2nd/3rd gear for the various engines? Maybe the 4.2 needs one shift less getting to 100 than the others? I've seen a small sports car gain a full second on 0-100 with just a transmission change, as top speed in 2nd went from 95 to 105.

Re: different transmission ratios/torque curves?
The 4.2 V8 TDI has numbers in the ballpark of the 4.2 gasoline engine. If it drives anything like the TDI in my father's golf, It'd be interesting to see if they would do it something like the s4. That way you would still have the smile on your face from putting your foot down, even after you visited the gas station.
