TDI engine drops out on starting
I have noticed over the last month twice when the car was started it started ok but say one second later it just died. I would then start it and all would be ok. It may be another two weeks till the next event.I can not remember if the engine was hot or cold.Engine is the 1.9TDI PD 130 BHP .

There could be several reasons. First, we recommend you diagnose using VCDS/VAS and check starting conditions and all sensor readings. Likely, there is a problem with the unit injectors or with one of the sensors. Another possibility is that there could be a leak in the fuel system. If so, we recommend you have this checked by a VAG dealer.

It sounds like a leak in the excess fuel return line. Not under pressure so it allows air enter when not running. When you start it gets blown back around the injector line before the pressure builds on the return line to sent it back to the tank. It can happen in a way that you cant even see the leak.....
Or am I just too old for the new-fangled systems?
