Navigation data question

Navigation data question
I have a question about the MMI Nav system in my 2013 Q5. Where does the data for creating the route come from?
I have the T-Mobile/Google subscription and was under the impression that it was used for create the routes in the nav system.
A major road recently opened near me. When I use Google Maps on a PC it uses that road when appropriate. However, when I use the MMI nav, it never uses that road even though I can see it (and drive on it) when I have the Google Earth view active.
Does anyone know if there's separate nav data in the car and the Google integration is just for the imagery and POIs? Or is Google Maps (online) actually the data provider for route creation?

I believe the route creation and the POIs are based on the built-in Nav database, so it depends on the version. And the google database is used for "Online Search" (you can also voice-command "google search") and the google earth visuals.
