Default 2000 TT Creaking/squeaking noise...

2000 Audi TT: There is a creaking/squeaking noise coming from somewhere in the front of the car when I turn the wheel in either direction. I can only notice it at slower speeds (20 or below). The noise may be there at higher speeds, but I just may not hear it. This problem has been there for about a year now and I can't find a definitive answer. Have you guys had the same problem or solution for it. Thanks in advance!

I have that same issue!!!! I asked the car shop to look into it yesterday, but they didn't. My creaking is in the same place as yours (driver side). and it's super loud, so that even people outside of the car can hear it.

It could be a ball joint or tie rod end siezing. Jack that side up and have someone turn the steering wheel while you get down and have a listen. A long screwdriver makes a good stethoscope for pinpointing noises.

Cheers.

Default Check the Sway Bar Bushings....

There is a piece of plastic on the sway bars where the bushings sit that makes a lot of creaking noises typically at low speeds, very audible and horrible sounding outside the car. I did not normally hear it at high speeds. I found a guide a while back on removing the pieces of plastic and replacing with polyester bushings, if I run by it again I will post it.

Something to consider.

The guide I used was:

http://public.fotki.com/mcphill/audi...anti-swaybar-/

Note: I just realized if you take out the air filter box on the drivers side you can see the sway bar metal clamp.....instead of trying the process in the fotki....believe me it is a PITA.

Good Luck!

Default 2002 TT Roadster Sway Bar Bushing replacement size?

I've had it with the sway bar bushing creaking. Good information in these posts, thanks. 'Just to confirm before I order these and have my indy mechanic perform (DIY level a bit over my head): For my 2002 TT 225hp Quattro Roadster, I should order 20mm Bushings? The Powerflex ones are recommended on some threads, what's everyone's experience/opinion with these?

Thanks for your help...Phil

Default This is the most likely source of the problem

Notorious issue with the Mk 1. Had them replaced on both of mine.
