Default 2002 TT 225 HEATING UP CLIMBING HILLS IN HIGH GEAR

Hello..
I am new to this forum. I have had my 2002 Audi TT Roadster 225 for about 2 years. It has about 63000 original miles on it. I had recently had the waterpump and drive belts all replaced after a waterpump failure. A week ago we had a day about 80 degrees on the mountain pass and a decided to take it for a drive. I noticed that when I had it in 5th or 6th and climbing hills the temp would creep up and stabilize at about 7/8 of the way up the temp gauge. The first time I noticed it I had parked and saw the temp was up but just then a fan kicked on and the temp dropped quick. Drove it some more and temp was stable until I again drove it up hill in high gear. As soon as I slowed and shifted down the fan would kick on and the temp would drop to normal. Seemed to generally happen when climbing hills. Any suggestions?

There have been reports of similar problems if a non-OEM thermostat was installed, even if it was made by the same manufacturer of the OEM, Wahler. I had the same symptoms in my car whith a non-OEM thermosatat. I replaced it with an Audi and solved the problem. The non-OEM opens slightly later.
