3.2 or 1.8

Re: Only if you dont keep the fluid changed at regular intervals..>>
I checked out the link that explains how to change the fluid. It looks really simple.
In any case, I really hate to go against coventional wisdom. You guys have a lot of experience with TT maintenance and I have none. I'm not going to ignore a bunch of TT owners telling me the 1.8 is more reliable. I really appreciate your comments.

Relax Sig....>>
I said "Potential".....I still think that down the road a bit, potential repairs will exceed the value of the cars, but heck, that's happening now with the 1.8's!

Re: 3.2 is my vote but I am biased..whats your goal for the car? track, POWER! or fun.
My wife and I were looking at Altima's and Camry's for $24,000. In the midst of shopping we came across a TT with low mileage for just about the same price. We wanted to buy it right away, but I told her buying a used Audi isn't something we can do lightly. I've been doing a lot of research since then. If I can take care of the routine maintenance myself, I see no reason not pursue a TT.
My first car was a Jaguar XJS V-12. Since then I've owned an Altima and an Intrepid. I don't want a TT for the track, I just want something that will bring joy back into driving.

ive had both, they are both great engines,
the 1.8t is more affordable to tune and you will get more out fromyour money. the VR6 has great power delivery with instant torque available when you hit the throttle. the 1.8t will nevr match the engine sound of the VR6, but thats about all i miss from the VR6. the 1.8T is lighter so its easier to throw around which i enjoy more. so each has its pros and cons. but either way it will bring the joy back in driving

This is the kind of stuff that makes me nervous about DSG

I've seen those posts too but have you noticed that---------->
The Mk1 world has been silent about DSG problems. Until we saw these reports of anomalies in Mk2s, I was beginning to think that our worries about DSG were for naught. Perhaps the Mk1s with the 3.2-DSG are less troublesome than the Mk2s with the 2.0-DSG.
I don't think I would be afraid to buy one of the 3.2 Mk1s, I'm just not sure I want to give up that third pedal. I worked hard to learn how to rev match downshifts properly with heel and toe and an occasional double clutch. Kind of sad to learn I've become obsolete.
