Default variable differential control?

i've looked thru the forums and havent found anything recent or usefull on the subject.

would it be possible to create some type of variable switch to adjust the power distribution of the EDL?

The only power distribution change i'm aware of would be an upgrade to the haldex but that would be a permanent change. I Don't know if you can regulate the edl through a VAG-com setting.

well if the computer sends signals to transfor power then there must be a way to find and manipulate and control such signals, or trick it into thinking front or back is slipping but that wouldnt be as precise.

EDL is not the AWD system, it's the bit that brakes a wheel to make the front and rear diffs lock. If you had that on all the time you'd destroy the brakes in pretty short order.

There are a couple of aftermarket Haldex controllers but those are mainly geared towards how soon the Haldex starts transferring torque to the rear axle, ie when you mash the gas instead of waiting for any sort of front end slip to develop. I think it was either Dahlback or Dialynx who supposedly made either a permanent 50/50 controller or an adjustable controller but you never hear too much about either. The blue and orange Haldex controllers are designed by Haldex and lots of people run those.

He has a actual center differential in that STi. ;-)

Our cars have nothing of the sort, as the car is too short to mount the engine longitudinally. If the engine was not mounted transversely, the TT could have had a true Quattro system, with a center differential and all that. Instead, it is a FWD that sends power to the back wheels when needed.

so the computer in our cars can (wen it feels needed) put at most 50% of the power to the rear?

maybe a mod to hold it at this setting? or vary rear power from 0-50% on command?

that would be the Haldex upgrade. read up on those and you'll understand the awd system and how that fixes what you want it to fix. you can also get a Peloquin rear lsd and take your dynamics further.

It's not like that. Haldex is a coupling rather than a diferential. Our cars ALWAYS have 100% power delivery at the front axle, If the sensors detect slippage there, the controller tells the clutches to lock the rear drive with the front. If the front has NO traction, the back will get all the power, but both axles wil be driven at the same speed. In reality it is only 50 - 50 if both the axles have equal traction and the front is slipping enough to actuate the controller. I would simply describe it as a center locking coupling for low traction and or high torque situations. When there is no slippage and low torque is being applied, our cars are front wheel drive.
