Can anyone explain boost to me? What does 1.0 bar actually mean?

Default Can anyone explain boost to me? What does 1.0 bar actually mean?

GIAC claims their chips "hold a STABLE 1-1.1 bar, which is less boost than what most tuners are using to make the same or less power than GIAC does". So apparently less boost with more power is better, but why?

Hopefully this isn't far too complicated to explain here.

TIA!

1 Bar=approx 14.50377 psi or 0.986923 atmospheres

Default not sure exactly what they mean by that...

i don't know much about the other chips, but perhaps GIAC is claiming that they have a consistent ~14-15 psi of boost, while others have higher boost in some places and less in others.

but boost is boost... unless there is something in the chip programing that can make a large difference in efficiency, more boost=more power.

right?

Default Boost is (more inside)

a slang term for someone stealing your car.

1.0 bar is the minimum number of bars visited before the "boost" is executed.

Default boost & power relationship

power is power, regardless of boost. if you can get the same amount of power from an NA (normall-aspirated) car as a turbo'd car, great, more "power to you" =) just remember that "power" isn't a constant, it is representative of the maximum power achieved on a power curve (vs RPMs usually), and turbo'd and NA cars have significantly different power curves.

running less boost means less problems associated with dealing with high boost, such as exhaust back pressure, turbo lag, etc. in general, u want to maximize your power and minimze your boost. it just ends up happening that increasing boost increases power.

so if GIAC claims it gets the same power with less boost, that is a good thing.

Default Boost is the rise in pressure over the standard atmospheric pressure the turbo pumps the air to...

What GIAC claims is that his chip can maintain ~1.1 bar of pressure over a greater or wider rpm range.
