Default fuel gauge problem

Hi there.I'm a new member and I could do with some advice.my mk1 tt has a fuel gauge problem.basically when the tank is full it's read g empty and as the fuel gers lower the gauge starts to read half full as it's nearly empty.I tried techron.didn't work.I cleaned the senders in the tank and it didn't work.I moved the floats by hand while I was cleaning them and the floats while pushed down are reading full and up they are reading empty.any help would be greatly appreciated.overall I'm delighted with my tt and the forum is very good.

There should be a test in the car's service manual to verify the float/sending unit is good or bad. If it tests good, it is likely the dash board gauge stepper motor that is bad. They are a known failure point on these cars.

I had same issue after I did my fuel pump. What I did is took out the fuse for gauge cluster and fuel pump for 10min put them back in and it all went back to normal. I did this just the other day worked great for me. Let me know if it works
