Default Looking at 2002 Quattro Roadster 225hp

Black over baseball with 89k miles. Exterior looks clean, interior is okay, left window door card coming up at window frame, something is coming out of the a/c vent (foam?) and the seats need a deep conditioning. The door above the subwoofer would not open.

Dealer wants $9,500

Cars for Sale: 2002 Audi TT 1.8T quattro Roadster w/ 225hp in Lake Park, FL 33403: Convertible Details - 381794582 - AutoTrader.com

Please give me feedback.

Your description is not as glowing as the ad. For any 2000-2006 TT, make sure the timing belt and all associated equipment has been replaced in the past 5 years or 60K. Make sure the dash instruments work properly, make sure the glove box latch works perfectly (a $1K repair!). Personally, I like to use cars.com because it does not have the different grades of ads to wade through. Cars.com on a national search shows many better buys available that would be worth transporting or flying there to drive home.

Is it based on time or mileage for timing belt? Per Audi service it says 105k miles.

Default The manual is dead wrong

Audi lost a class action suit over it. 5 years or 60K, whichever comes first. Do it or risk a $5K+ repair when it, or the tensioner, or the water pump, etc fail. I can't tell from the service information if it was ever done.

the car looks really good from the pictures.
when you buy a TT is like getting another kid!, forget what AUDI says about timing belt too much flip flop ;-). ok 5 years 60k miles it is. I would replace it regardless. too much money to fix if it breaks.
if you can do it yourself:

be ready to replace the speakers as the paper cone is not very good.
heres a link with some info incase you didn't know.

Default Audi TT too much work so will pass

Well I test drove the car and it had the following issues:

center dash lcd is shot
two codes, P0118 and P0171
Top was manual and very stiff to lower
seats looked like they had gotten wet in the past
Rear glass would not come up

Hard to tell if timing belt was changed.

Too bad as it drove well.

the lcd is a known issue, parts can be had for 50 to 80 for lcd, motor for temp. and gas for 30.
if the rear glass is not working and you can see the sides turning is probably the belt. about 130 from ecs. a 6 pack of beer and a rivet gun.
theres a few places online that sell really good seat covers , I have seen 180 to 600 a set.
if the top doesn't work, I am just not sure its worth fixing unless you can get parts really cheap from ebay that work.
P0118 temp sensor $5, P0171 probably a Maf

if your looking for a project I would look in craigslist and auto trader.

Thanks iffywoe. The problem is that was what was obvious, what else lurks....plus no evidence timing belt was changed, and I looked at the project, above my pay grade as a hack mechanic.

What do you all think of this one:

This is was a lemon and had far more work than most TTs I've seen. Multiple problems with door trim, AC, and dash. The almost annual checks or replacement of the computer module tell me significant drive issues that were never resolved.
