Default CarPlay in a 2011 TT-S

I'd like to replace my headunit in my 2011 TT-S with one that has CarPlay. Has anyone replaced theirs? Any problems or issues?

I replaced mine with a pioneer unit, I didn't install it tho but so far not a single problem. The parts are pricy tho.

Do you mind me asking what it cost total?
I was given an estimate for a bout $900 which seemed reasonable to me... but then I started to look more closely and it seemed there would need to be a faceplate of sorts as some of the buttons on the MMI are "outside" of the screen display.
I'm not sure the shop I got the quote from realized that.

it was about $1300 and yeah you need a special kit, I also got steering wheel control and a warranty.

So when you have the CarPlay unit installed, what happens to the buttons and **** that are "outside" of the display? Did they need to create a new faceplate? Or are those buttons and **** abandoned?
Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by the buttons outside they display, the whole unit was replaced with a new one so its just a big touch screen for me.

Default Faceplate?

All of the buttons and dial are outside of the display. It seems that if you pull out everything there would need to be a custom faceplate that could curve back under the unit.

Nice!! Thank you--I don't think my dealer realized that a kit is necessary.
