Default Engine swap?

Hello Audiworld.

I come here to ask you a question that may or may not be a silly one. I'm considering buying a used 2008 Audi TT 2.0 TFSI (200bhp) car but one thing strikes me as odd - on the plastic engine cover (or at the side of it - I'm not sure, if it's still a part of the cover or not - see for yourself), I've found a sticker with the date 08.05.10 (8th of May 2010?). Does that mean there were some serious repairs done to the engine or possibly even an engine swap or do they change the part during service (or am I reading the date wrong)? Any info would be much appreciated, seeing how authorized Audi dealers don't particularly enjoy disclosing full service histories of their cars to strangers.

Thank you for your responses.

Also I'm obviously not an expert, so it may just be standard procedure to change the sticker along with the plastic piece underneath for some reason.

You're forgetting its likely in European date format, which is typically YYYY-MMM-DD or in this case YY.MM.DD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601
I know its hard to tell because its a bit ambiguous with the low numbers.

If the build date on the car's vin stick (likely in the door jam) predates May 2008 then I am not so sure. But if its post or actually May 2008 then you should be good. I think the TT and their engines were all built in Gyor, so its very possible the engine and car have identical build months.

The only information an Audi Service manager should be reluctant to share with you about a used Audi is the prior owner's information. They usually will not show you the print-out because it has owner data. However, I have never had a Service Manager refuse to verbally tell me what was done to the car. Typically, I ask him if the car was serviced according to schedule and tell me about any warranty work and any parts replaced out of warranty. It is in the Service Manager's best interest to share this data with you because your problems, if any, will become his problems to deal with. If the manager refuses, go to another dealer.

The car is actually from May 2008, so you might be right. Could anyone confirm this strange date format based on their own car? Thank you.
