Manual is more fun, rowing those gears is where it's at. The s-tronic (DSG) is more precise, faster and F1 like. I unfortunately had to give up my stick, to much traffic during my commute.

Cool how this ten-year-old thread has awoke from the dead! No doubt, my opinion is different than it was ten years ago. In 2006, before I ever owned an Audi or a DSG, I would have sworn by a manual only. Since owning two DSG Audi's, I still favor the stick, but have moved closer to center. Snippet of my comments from a different recent thread, seems it belongs in this thread:

Situations where manual is king:
1) Almost always.
2) Have spouse who can't / won't drive a stick!!
3) Enjoy shifting and don't mind that a lesser car with DSG might run around you occasionally. (I hear guys groaning "not me", but I've been the DSG driver in the lesser car...)

Nothing is old on the internet, yesterday's news tomorrow. lol I was fortunate enough to own Audi's first North American TT with DSG; A S-line black on silver on black with leather upgrade, 2004 3.2 Quattro Convertible. That car could be driven all year round, but best when the top can be down. (-8. That transmission made me a fan and at the time my DD was a 2002 225 Quattro TT Coupe MT6 black on black... with upgrades hehehe

its about torque transfer with a clutch. The power from the left foot, up the leg, thru the groin area, then down the other leg an on to the gas pedal. It feels good. If it don't, then get a STronic.

No, we can't shift as fast as modern automatics. DSG's are really getting good and much smarter, but a manual is about control.

currently I have a 2013 535i Msport with manual 6 spd and its a blast. Wife has 2015 allroad with 2.0 and auto and it does a great job. We are looking at buying a 2008 3.2TT and would only get one with a Manual. Not so easy to find the right car but I have faith I will prevail. We had a 2010 Avant 2.0 whose engine burned up at 60k and Audi bought the car back. It was an oil burner. Reason for the 3.2. This will be a 3rd car mostly for the wife who after years of Minivans is not entirely satisfied with her Allroad. don't get me wrong, she loves it but she misses the old 911 (1974 Targa) we had and wants that visceral experience if a low sports car and one can only row their own gears with such a car. Personal preference. We live in an area in North Carolina where the traffic is light and the foothills are not far for daily drives to some (not great) Winery's and good hiking. If I lived in a heavy congested area Im not so sure i'd be as enthusiastic about dragging the foot back and forth. We own an older home with no garage so no "queen", this car will get driven and live outdoors.

My wife can't figure out why so many of these cars are NOT manual!!! Me, I get the technology benefit but not ready to surrender quite yet. Her father had a 1980's Ferrari 308 which was a fun car and for years she would not learn stick. Finally we shamed her into learning as many in life never get a chance to drive a Ferrari, and she did. Now she is like "Don't bring me no sports car without a stick"!
