Default Re: Are both parts required if you have exposed contacts ?

If you only order the rubber mat, the surface underneath will not be flat so it is not very functional. If you only order the plastic piece, it will not match well either since it is black plastic with 2 small holes that is different from the other parts.

I agree the quality of the rubber mat is poor. The cup holder bottom looks better. I already asked my dealer to order another one to see if it looks the same. My photo is also so-so. But it is much better than the exposed contacts. Audi needs to change the standard configuration.

Default any updates?

Any updates on this? Did anyone ever come up with a more elegant solution than the rubber tray?

I'm familiar with the carbon fiber cover you can get: http://www.tidstyling.com/shop/step1.php?number=621

But this just seems like it just covers up a fairly shallow tray -- IE it does not convert this area to anything useful.

Has anyone done a nice modification to this area? Perhaps added a useful area for sunglasses, or extra cup holders?

I have an 08 TT with the plastic plate with contacts and I have the factory bluetooth option. If I remove the plate with the contacts will it affect the bluetooth pairing I have set up with my phone?

Default Not at all...

I pulled the one out of the 08 TT that I owned and replaced it with the filler plate from Audi that is now stock on the 09's.

i believe those metal contacts were for an optional cradle that you would put a phone into to plug into the roof antenna. allegedly in parts of europe, cell phone towers are few and far between.

Default Correct! Made a nice charger but that's it...

I eventually got the cradle for my iPhone. They are available if you prefer to go the expensive, yet one-off route of filling that waste of space back there.

Tony ...

Can you post a picture of that thing in your car? It goes right over those exposed contacts?

Just snaps in place over the contacts. Long since sold the car. Sorry!

So how did it work - did it improve reception in the car noticeably? I wonder if it would work at all with the 2010 AMI... Hmmmm....
