The car does not have true subwoofers....the doors only house approx 6" speakers in an enclosure with dual coils. They simply can not recreate the truly low notes. For an audio enthusiast, this is a mortal sin. However those front speakers push out a lot of sound for what they are...but they are not subs.

That said, the rest of the system performs pretty well, however maybe not as well as other B & O systems Audi has offered (however, at only $1000 we kinda are getting what we paid for in a way). I'm a pretty big audio guy, and while the system doesn't sound as amazing as I want, it's a very good performing system and I'm still glad I upgraded. The spacial sound stage is better than some other brands I've heard, and the speakers sound good at high volumes and don't rattle the doors and trim like some systems.

Are you listening Audi? Customers are willing to pay for a better system, so add a sub already and address a shortcoming of the car.

A true sub would take more space and add weight (note bulk of system under driver's seat). Given the relatively small sportscar-interior volume it's a compromise I can live with. But then I'm not a pitch perfect audiophile, nor expect home theater sound from, again, a very small space.

When on backroads in Dynamic, which is most of the time, my sound system is typically off anyway so again it's fine for my highway cruising.

But point well taken that Audi should offer a superlative system for those who have the need/desire.
