Brake Squeal at -15 degrees C or less
I have a 2016 TTS (Canada) about 5,000 km (3,000 miles) on it so far.
When the outdoor temperature is –15 degrees C (5 deg F) or colder the brakes squeal very loudly & high-pitched when coming to a stop. They only squeal from about 10 km/hr (7 mph) down to 0 km/hr when coming to a stop, such as at a stop sign or pulling up behind cars in traffic or at red lights, etc. It sounds like it’s from the front brakes only. I’ve never heard this before on any other car I’ve owned and I don’t hear it from any other cars in the vicinity when driving in the same weather conditions. So something’s weird.
This is not the same as the squeal from brakes that might be wearing out when you start braking, which I have heard before on other cars. This squeals at the “end” of braking, about 10 km/h speed or lower. It has been going on for about a month now, but only when it's fairly cold out (about –15C or lower) and does not do this when warmer than about that temperature.
I'm wondering if it's related to the bigger front brakes on the TTS.
Has anyone else experienced this or perhaps know what might cause it on the TTS?
Thanks,

Yes, the TTS brakes squeal at colder temps (mine just yesterday at barely sub-freezing temps). Simply a matter of the pad material composition. The more race-like the pads the more they need to get some heat in them to quiet down.
Note that F1 type race pads squeal constantly and are pretty much useless until they get employed a good bit.
All design is compromise, especially in a vehicle that wants to be very sporty and yet behave in the everyday world.
There are also less dusty pads but typically more costly and also more compromised towards track use.
