Default First impressions

Well after waiting roughly 3 months after ordering, took delivery of my TT last Wednesday.....and promptly drove to NY for the holiday! Okay had one bad thing happen......noticed a flat tire in the garage yesterday.....filled it enough to get back to dealer last night......there's a screw in it, unrepairable.....they ordered another Hankook to be installed tomorrow. Now give me a freaking break, that's a bummer!

First impressions....keep in mind I'm not racing it, just having fun as daily driver...

1. The car is much faster than I expected.....after reading many posts I was prepared to be disappointed. No more worry, tons of pep.
2. It's really easy to go fast.....like I was keeping it at 80 to 90 for 3 hrs straight on the highway on our return trip Friday night (less traffic). This car is much smoother and quieter at high speeds compared to my MK2.
3. When I minimize the virtual cockpit speedometer, the passenger can't easily see the speed readout. Gotta love that! Did I say it's really easy to go fast? This puppy would be a blast on the autobahn (I've got a German drivers license also).
4. Upgraded sport seats are more comfortable than I expected. My wife never liked my MK2 seats, for these she has no complaints.
5. The cockpit required a learning curve. The dealership guys really don't have much experience with it also, so they aren't much help. Plus, the owners manual isn't a great help. It's like most software....i.e., who reads manuals? You need to just work the system to learn it. It took about 3 days screwing around before I understood the logic steps.....now I understand it completely, easy to navigate, it's totally logical and the menu steps repeat from section to section. Love the cockpit. Some have mentioned that it's too much info, maybe distracting....I don't find it distracting, I'm a techie at heart, I love it. It's totally simple. Can't imagine now going back to a car without it. All the info is right in front of you, and you can tailor it to have the info in the cockpit that you like....i.e., maps, or iPod song info, or engine info, etc etc.
6. The B&O upgrade is awesome.....no complaints. I've left my iPod permanently hooked into a USB port, works seamlessly. Very easy to navigate to my artists or playlists.
7. HVAC system simple to use, no issues.
8. Ride is very tight, steering highly responsive. It feels light years better than my MK2.
9. The Floret Silver has a hint of blue in it.....nice color, I'm happy. I got the grey leather seats also, I'm happy with the contrast.
10. There are some little detail touches I didn't expect. For instance.....the reading lights by the rear view mirror are touch sensitive. Touch the cover once to turn on and off. Touch cover and hold to make it dimmer. Also the interior LED lighting is really cool looking.....it's also tuneable in the menu system, so you can lower the brightness to the level you prefer. The auto headlight function is also tuneable, you can make the lights turn on sooner as dusk approaches. Lots of little stuff like that.
11. The blind spot system works better than my wife's Volvo system. The yellow warning light is easier to notice.....and I like that when the yellow light is on warning you of someone nearby, then if you put a blinker on to change to that lane it gives you an instant rapid burst of blinking yellow.
12. Someone had mentioned in a post some concern about the headlights not being bright enough. No problem in my opinion, they're very bright and the high beams project way the hell out, very brightly.

Stuff to think about

1. Wish there was a 2nd 12V plug....we tend to charge lots of stuff.
2. Need to hard wire my Escort Redline.....haven't had time to figure out where the fuse box is.
3. Have only navigated with regular Google so far. Each time I tried Google Earth I didn't have a good enough connection to load it....so I'm not sure what it will look like??
4. Have tried the voice activated instructions a few times....maybe I should read that part of the manual....my wife's Volvo is easier to use in this respect. I wasn't sure how to tell it to navigate somewhere, went in circles a few times.
5. When you stop the engine, you get a quick like burping sound from the speakers.....it happens fast, kinda funny, haven't figured out yet how to adjust that.....it definitely sounds like it's supposed to burp like that.
6. For some reason I expected the headlights to be turn sensitive.....i.e. moving left and right with the steering direction. It appears this aspect isn't standard....too bad, I've gotten used to it on my other cars, including my MK2.
7. Well I'm 57 and this my first "personal" car ever that wasn't a standard. It's just so much more fun to have a standard, you're forced to be one with the car, no options to get lazy. I've hardly used the paddle shifters and I expect that I'll just get permanently lazy and stick to the auto transmission setting. Guess this is the future, too bad.... 😢

Bottom line, the car is basically flawless.....only minor issues. It's a blast to drive, love the cockpit, and the exterior lines of the car are just beautiful to admire.

Is it possible that you accidentally switched off the adaptive light function when learning the menus? It's in the Exterior Lighting group under Vehicle Settings.

I don't think so? The manual talked about adaptive lights, but not left to right, only up and down per speed sensitivity, I think hill sensitivity also? I'm traveling now with my car stuck at the dealership waiting for tire, I can check again when I get back Thursday.

I think it's the "static cornering light" discussed on page 39; this is also controlled by the adaptive light setting.

1) are you using the 2 USB connectors in the box forward of the shifter?

5) never heard this? Unless you mean the Audi heartbeat sound? You can turn that off in the menu

Yes, those lights work, but from what I've noticed they are only used for turning a corner at intersections. They are good for that, but nothing compared to actual adaptive lights following your steering wheel.
Buy the way, I haven't checked, but I think those cornering lights are just the left or right fog light going on. The front fogs are mounted inside the headlight fixture, and point to the curb......looks like the same light extension as those corner lights.

Yes using the USB in front of the shifter, I leave my iPod inside the storage there.

Okay that's it!.....it sounds like a heartbeat.....so maybe that's common on newer Audi's?

We in the US don't get the full adaptive (turning) headlights. We do get the corner-illuminating lights at intersections as you noticed. Pretty cool really and unexpected in my case.

The only sub-menu that didn't follow form was the "vehicle." That took some discovery as my dealership was also clueless. But then as you cited they haven't seen many TT's as yet. However, there are some good Audi videos on YouTube they could have viewed.

Sorry to hear about the tire, but then NY ... My dealership finance guy was really pushing the add-on tire warranty, among others. I didn't, but looks like it would have been a plus for you.

My wife also thinks the sport seats are very good. Her only complaint is that at 5' tall she has some trouble getting out of them and sliding over the somewhat wide sideskirt to the ground.

It's a super fun car, as you now know. I'm back to taking mini trips for no good reason other than to enjoy it. As you, we have some very nice backroads (if not potholed highways) that are made for it, even at relatively slow speeds.

I assume you like the ride smoothness? Some professional reviews, like Car & Driver, thought it a bit harsh with the 19" wheels.

Car & Driver "professional?"

I expected a sportscar-like ride and am not disappointed. I do engage "comfort" mode with the wife aboard (mostly to abate the piped-in engine sound) and no complaints. In dynamic mode it is of course a good deal stiffer but the magnetic fluid shocks do a very good job, even on our much patched roads.

I'm switching to my 18" Winter rims tomorrow so will be able to further comment. In my A5 I seasonally looked forward to the more GT handling 18" rims with softer Michelin Alpin snow tires, but I think I'll be a bit longing for the OEM 19" in my TTS.
