Okay....I was in the dealership this afternoon picking up my old TT after repair....oh that was torture, because my new TT was sitting in the lot space directly next to my old one! Anyhow, the service guy checked the rim offset of the '16TT, it's 52mm. He told me "rule of thumb" is plus/minus 3mm for perfect fit. I asked him to please check the offset on the old TT.....he said that one is also 52mm. So, if I look up the old TT on TireRack, it's recommending many rims with a 45mm offset.....I have to believe that this is okay, because my old TT winter rims were by Moda and also had a 45mm offset. The new Rial rims I'm looking at also have 45mm offset.....sounds pretty common?

So anyone care to comment. I assume I'm good with anything with a 45mm offset, since TireRack is offering that for the old TT, correct??

by the way.....here's old and new, side by side.....same color, I know, a bit boring, ...we live on a dirt road, silver hides the dust.....

If you haven't mounted the tires yet, you should swap them for the correct size.
The optional wheels are 26.1" in diameter, so I'm sure these will work.

Ha, exactly!! Yes total torture, pickup at 2pm today.....I think it was interesting to see them side by side, will get some better pics in my driveway later today if the light is good....

So does anyone have comments on the 45mm offset. I called TireRack last night and they won't guarantee a fit until they measure the car, and they have no idea when this will be.

Has anyone out there already installed their winter rims with 45mm offset?

What is the width of the rim? They go hand in hand.

The 20" wheels are 26.02" OD.
The 19" wheels are 25.75" OD.

So there is no reason to use the wrong size tire (especially because it is narrower) if you don't have to. If you want to use a narrow snow tore for deep snow traction, then the official 17" winter wheel/tire setup should be used (225/50/17). It is also important to use a wheel with the correct offset/width when downsizing the tire.

Will the tire in question work? Sure. But it is wrong.

My MK3 TT has the 19" upgraded rims with summer tread. For winter I'll go to 18" rims, but TireRack has no MK3 info yet........but, on the MK2 TireRack 18" package they recommend 225/45/18. The rims that come with this size on TireRack are mostly 45mm offset. My only question is, will these work for the MK3 because there is no info out there besides what the dealer told me.....dealer says 52mm offset for both MK2 and MK3.
