I don't see any "big" tread blocks on my DWS 06 (they're not off road or winter tires). After 20K miles they are still as quiet as when new so I'm not sure what your service manager is saying.

I would agree with your opinion of Porsche, though the Boxtster is the only one comparable to the TTS(Don't get me started on BMW). I have to say the new VW frame may be the culprit for your displeasure. I has significantly 'stiffened' the ride over the MK2- Though I find the steering markedly improved.

I've put a few hundred miles on the new Pirellis. Nice ride. Compared to the old Pirellis there is not as much impact felt over potholes, RR crossings, and expansion cracks/tar strips. Some of that difference could just be due to the extra tread depth. Unfortunately, noise over those bumps isn't any less than the old tires which had a fairly good rating for noise and comfort. General road noise is low. Handling is tight, controlled, and very sharp, without any twitchiness or tramlining. Again, nice tires but not a huge difference.

Coming from BMW 5er, TTS definitely has much harsher ride, but also much better acceleration/steering.

2 wishes: 7th gear for highway driving, softer suspension in "comfort" mode

Why 7th gear desired for highway cruising when we have a 6th gear overdrive?

I use comfort drive select for highway fuel conservation too.

Yes, concur that comfort suspension could be a bit softer but I chalk that up to "sports car."

Because 6th gear @80mph is about 3,000rpm which produces noise a little louder than I would like. bmw 5er keeps it at ~2,200rpm with 8th gear, and it's much quieter ride.

I never really noticed. Honestly.

The 5-series is a sweet Grand Touring ride. The TTS is pretty good on a long trip but of course more a sports car.

As we know the TTRS has 7th gear, so Audi must have recognized the customer desire for a bit better cruiser.
